AU-IACUC
The federal government and the Andrews University policy require that the care and use of all vertebrate laboratory animals be monitored by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The Andrews University — IACUC is an administrative compliance committee that oversees the university’s animal research activities involving the use of animals. It reviews and approve or reject research protocols conducted under the auspices of the university. All faculty, staff and students at AU must submit application of all projects involving animal use and care of animals used in research, training or testing if:
- The project, training, and testing is conducted under the umbrella of the university
- The project, training, and testing is conducted under the guidance of any faculty, staff, student or proxy of the university in line with his/her Andrews university work, or
- The project, training, and testing is conducted under the guidance of any faculty, staff, student or proxy of the university using any property or facility of the Andrews University
Currently we do not have a Federal Wide Assurance (FWA). It is not needed due to Andrews University not having any active vertebrate animal facility on campus, but we do have an IACUC committee, that review field based research.
