School Psychology—EdS

The Educational Specialist in school psychology provides training for a professional career as a certified or licensed school psychologist. Training is based on a philosophy that promotes the balanced development of the mental, physical, social and spiritual nature of individuals. Typical responsibilities are assessment, diagnosis, consultation, and intervention services to preschool and school-age children with educational, emotional and behavioral problems. This program also provides field, practicum and internship experience.

PROGRAM LENGTH

The EdS is a 65-credit program which can typically be completed by full-time students in three years.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

The EdS in school psychology programs only admit new students for fall semester. Exceptions to this can be discussed with the program’s coordinator.

Prospective students must submit their applications by July 30 for the year they wish to begin.

POINTS OF DISTINCTION

  • The EdS degree is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree (or non-U.S. equivalent) in psychology, education or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum admission GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale).
  • 20 course credits in psychology at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Three recommendations from professionals such as advisors, major professors and employers.
  • Resume describing employment, research or special projects.
  • GRE General test from exam taken within five years. 
  • Statement of Purpose reflecting your philosophical perspective, personal, professional and academic goals, and reasons for seeking the graduate program.
  • TOEFL, IELTS or PTE (academic): students whose language of education is not English must submit English proficiency test scores.
